What is a Zoom Virtual Classroom?

A virtual classroom is an online learning environment that allows teachers and students to communicate, interact, collaborate, and explain ideas. A virtual classroom enables internet-connected students, teachers, and families to access quality instruction, training, or hands-on activities anywhere, even at great distances.

ExplorTech subscribes to Zoom Meetings, a leading provider of video communication services, because of its ease-of-use, outstanding performance, and reliability. A virtual classroom can be more effective than a traditional classroom setting, because of:

  • Convenience and schedule flexibility
  • Better knowledge retention and higher student engagement due to its interactive audio-video format
  • Tools that gather student input and give immediate feedback
  • Accessibility by individuals unable to attend a regular classroom
  • The built-in ability to record the classroom, making it available to absent students, while increasing the safety and security of students

ExplorTech Studio 1 is also a “Virtual Makerspace”

“To define a school makerspace by its purpose and simplest of terms, it is a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects”

Laura Flemming, “Worlds of Making”

Our Virtual Classroom is centered within a well-equipped Makerspace, with readily-available supplies, equipment, and materials that “can act as a provocation for inquiry, as well as modern technology and items to invent with.” (Makerspace for Education). And remote classrooms and individual students can be equipped with matching supplies for a truly interactive hands-on experience. Our space is equipped with high-definition cameras and has:

  • 3D Printers
  • CNC machine
  • Small-board computers like Raspberry Pi and Arduino
  • Robotics sets and DIY robotics parts
  • Lots of hardware, electronic parts, and software
  • Photographic and video equipment
